Snoring

Snoring is a symptom of something wrong with your breathing, often referred to as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) when it causes a pause in breathing of 10 seconds or more. The sound we hear when someone snores are the tissues of the airway vibrating. Both OSA and snoring can indicate a poor quality of sleep.

Treatment for Snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Using a specific set of diagnostic and treatment techniques, we often select a customized oral appliance to treat the snoring and other symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea. Oral appliances help to keep the airway open while you sleep by positioning the jaw forward and keep your tongue from “obstructing” the airway.

Benefits of Treatment

  • Muted or decreased snoring
  • Increased oxygen levels while sleeping
  • Sleep in same room as your partner without being elbowed
  • Restful sleep
  • No bathroom trips in the middle of the night
  • Decreased symptoms of acid reflux
  • Eliminate reliance on sleep aids

Risks if Left Untreated

  • Increasing daytime sleepiness
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • High blood pressure
  • Increased risk of stroke or heart attack
  • Death
  • Forgetfulness
  • Decreased school and/or work performance
